Wes Patterson and Mark Deeds spent careers in law enforcement and found BBQ as a way to break away from the stress of dealing with criminals and make new friends. Now Wes is fully retired, Mark has scaled back a bit and they’re finding success on the competition circuit as Wood Hook BBQ. The Missouri duo recently posted their second career KCBS Grand Championship and we visit with them on Episode 157 of the Tailgate Guys BBQ Show.
We also find out about Ozarks BBQ Fest, an annual BBQ festival in Springfield, Missouri, which has a near $20,000 payout for Steak Cookoff Association and KCBS, April 22-23. Organizer Larry Krauck - a comeback story in his own right after a lengthy COVID battle before last year’s event - tells us about preparations.
