Tailgate Guys BBQ Podcast

Apr 6, 2021

Less than a year ago, Marissa Ouverson had never competed in a Steak Cookoff Association event. Now, she’s a World Champion after taking down the $10,000 first prize at the SCA World Championships last month in Fort Worth, Texas. We talk to Marissa, a 21-year-old student at Iowa State University, about her journey on Episode 108 of the Tailgate Guys BBQ Show Podcast.

On our “Under the Radar” segment, we take a trip to Mitchelleville, Maryland, to visit with Norris “Syd” Sydnor of the up-and-coming KCBS team Good Googly Good BBQ. Despite competing for only a couple of years, Sydnor - with an enthusiasm for BBQ that is sure to make you smile - already is one of the top chicken cooks in KCBS. And how did he come up with the name Good Googly Good BBQ?

Want to nominate yourself - or someone else - for “Under the Radar?” We’re looking for teams just getting started or who have yet to win a Grand Championship. Let me know at lscranton755@gmail.com

Lyndal and Steve discuss their Easter weekend cooking results, review the NCAA basketball championship game and preview The Master’s (anyone up for a pimento-cheese burger?).

Thanks to our sponsor/marketing partners: Blues Hog BBQ Sauce, Royal Oak Charcoal, The Butcher Shoppe, the Iowa BBQ Store, Affordable Income Tax & Payroll, DDR Fabrication, Arkassippi Smoke Live and The Arkassippi Combo, Vietti Marketing and In the Garden of Eden.
